Continental extends its line of turbochargers for the aftermarket – BMW, MINI and brands of VW group

Schwalbach, Germany, November 16, 2020: The technology company Continental is making more of its original equipment turbochargers available to the automotive aftermarket. Starting immediately, it is offering turbochargers for numerous models made by BMW, MINI and the Volkswagen Group. “The success of our turbochargers for Ford confirmed our strategy of putting original equipment turbochargers onto the market in a short time,” says Michael Rieth, responsible product manager at Continental. “By adding these products we’re covering additional high-volume models and making many original products available to workshops for repairs.” The components are being sold via special turbocharger distributors.

Honeywell Unveils Next Generation Turbo Technology to Help Improve Vehicle Emissions and Performance

FRANKFURT / Sept. 13, 2017 /Honeywell (NYSE:HON), the leading global developer of automotiveturbochargers, announced today its newest gasoline turbocharger technology developedto improve power and torque and aid in the reduction of vehicle emissions willdebut on the new BMW 2.0L engine program announced at the 67th Annual IAA Carsevent in Frankfurt.

The newtechnology represents Honeywell’s third generation gasoline turbocharger architecture that hasbeen updated and designed for twin-scroll, 4-cylinder engines that are 1.5liters and larger. The new generation has shown representative increases inpower from 90kW/L to more than 100kW/L and in torque from 175Nm/L to more than200 Nm/L over the previous generation technology.

One of thenew advances comprising the third generation architecture is a new wastegate with a Honeywell-developed mono-blockarm and valve. This one-piece design replaces a traditional three-piece valve reducingnoise by 5 to 10 decibels and improving fuel economy by up to 0.5 percent. Inaddition the unique valve design provides better controllability and 50 percentless wear due to repetitive motion against the turbo housing. Coupled withelectric actuation, the new wastegate valve is also having a positive effect onreducing the time needed to engage the catalytic converter for managing engineemissions associated with cold start conditions within gasoline engines.
