Going to Oakland in the 3rd place match is bittersweet for a team that was in the Finals last split. Nonetheless, for an org to be in the whole Finals event both splits in their first year is a great accomplishment! 100 Thieves’ Ssumday provides some insight on the strength of other teams in the league and his hopes for this weekend in Oakland.
What do you feel about your matchup going into TSM?
I definitely want TL to win, so we automatically go to worlds. While going into TSM doesn’t necessarily affect our ability to make it, since it may affect the seeding, I want to do well on the stage. Also, it’s a different stage, so I want to show my ability. There are different fans than those in LA, so I want to show my best for those fans.
While you won’t have to play against C9 in NA because one of you will soon auto-qualify for World’s, you have the ability to have an unbiased opinion of them as a team. What do you think about their strengths and their run to 2nd place?
It’s very impressive that they didn’t have a good start – starting in 2nd place – but then they ended with the bye. That is very cool that they were able to do that. C9 has found their color, or their mojo. They’ve clicked. 100 Thieves doesn’t feel like we’re at that point yet, but hopefully we’ll get there.
Switching gears, what are your thoughts about being in the conversation for MVP this split?
I don’t want to expect winning that too much, because that is a lot of pressure. There are a lot of people thinking highly of me and giving me compliments, but there are others thinking poorly of me as well. I don’t want to put that expectation on me though.
Well the praise speaks highly of you either way, so congrats on the strong performance this split. I’m curious as to your thoughts on why you guys are able to beat all the teams, but you have not proven to be able to match up against Team Liquid so far. What is it about that team that picks 100 thieves apart?
I look at my team as having a really strong top side, and Team Liquid has a really strong bottom side. For Liquid to win, they just have to camp top and make sure I don’t get ahead. But for us to beat them, we have to do well in all areas of the game. We can’t just camp bottom and win. Because of that, it becomes a hard matchup.
