The German esports organisation SK Gaming has partnered with the Bundesliga club FC Cologne (1. FC Köln), according to a press release.

The Bundesliga club have signed two FIFA 18 players through SK Gaming. Mirza Jahic will represent the club on the Playstation 4, whereas Timo „Praii“ Gruneisen will compete on the Xbox One.

The partnership is supposed to run deeper than FIFA however: According to statements made by both parties, the FC Cologne will improve the “fitness and nutrition” of all the SK Gaming esports players, including the CS:GO team, in the future.

The two clubs also intend to work together to bring esports closer to the German mainstream. With events for students and parents, the football club wants to improve the public perception of esports in Germany, which has been viewed rather negatively in the past few years.
