DLim joins EXCEL as new Head Coach amid other Coaching Staff changes

EXCEL, one of the organizations participating in the LEC, have announced that David ‘DLim’ Lim got appointed as the new head coach of the main League of Legends roster. Lim succeeds Josh ‘Furndog’ Furneaux who first joined EXCEL in June 2016 and stood with the organization for almost three years including some breaks.

“I am very excited to have this opportunity to work with EXCEL and build something great with them. I see potential in the EXCEL organisation and can’t wait to start working with everyone there.”

David ‘DLim’ Lim – Head Coach, EXCEL

Throughout the 2019 LEC Spring Split, Lim has been working for Schalke 04 Esports as an assistant coach under head coach Dylan Falco. Previously, the Canadian has been in coaching roles for Team Liquid and Clutch Gaming, working with players like Febiven, Piglet, or Reignover.

However, Lim is not the only addition to the coaching staff. Tim ‘TimKiro’ Cho got appointed as the coach of EXCEL’s youth team in the UKLC. This also means that with Petar ‘Unlimited’ Georgiev and Josh ‘Jarge’ Smith, the former academy coach and strategic coach are departing the organization alongside Furndog.

“Competing at this level has been a superb experience for our young organisation and whilst we are proud of the efforts of our people, we have recognized the need to continue improving our performance support structure.

Joel Holmes-Darby – Director of Esports, EXCEL

This statement by Holmes-Darby suggests that the changes are a result of the growth of the organization and especially the League of Legends division have gone through since they got accepted into the permanent partnership model of the League of Legends European Championship throughout the second half of 2018.

The Shotcaller has reached out Furndog to hear from himself about his departure.

I would just like to say thank you to everyone at EXCEL that has made the last 3 years such an enjoyable experience. I am truly grateful and so proud of what we have been able to achieve, developing EXCEL from a bottom tier UK Premiership team to a worthy LEC contender. Its been a long road of ups and downs but to be a part of the EXCEL Family has been an absolute joy and I wish the organisation nothing but continued success!
